Building Science for Modular Construction
This one day session is the prerequisite course for those in the modular industry planning on attending the RESNET Field Rater Inspector Certification and course to be held at Penn College in December. Topics to be discussed will include but not limited to: the Energy Star Labeled Homes program-A description of advanced energy standards for new construction; Principles of heat transfer-a brief lesson in the physics of heat loss; How and when accepted construction practices fail to meet high performance; Ventilation strategies for the 21st century home; Principles of effective heating/cooling design; Building systems interactions-How well-intentioned builders create problems through unevaluated designs; Tools and diagnostic techniques of the building analyst; A primer on health & safety considerations for new construction; The human interaction factor-"Weaknesses in building systems will eventually be exploited to the detriment of the building and the occupants"; How Energy Star and high performance construction benefit the builder and buyer-Considerations for the business model. An exam at the end of the program will be used to assess eligibility for progression to the RESENT Course. NOTE: PA RESIDENTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER TO RECEIVE THE SPECIAL GRANT RATE OF $60 (SECTION 1); NON-PA RESIDENTS & THOSE NOT WANTING TO PROVIDE THIER SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER YOUR RATE IS $200 (SECTION 2).
